Jurassic Seascape

Artwork for Stonewater’s Dorset Housing Development

‘Jurassic Seascape’ marks the entrance to a Stonewater housing development in Lytchett Matravers, Dorset, celebrating the region's natural beauty in a thoughtfully designed public artwork.

The artwork comprises an 8-meter-long wall that gracefully follows the contours of the pathway behind it. Crafted from locally sourced Purbeck limestone, the sculpture integrates with the landscape, blending natural materials and expert craftsmanship. We collaborated with skilled local craftsmen to shape the limestone to create an inviting and visually striking composition.

Dynamic Stainless-Steel Waves

Dynamically arranged stainless-steel pieces are inset into the limestone wall. These pieces evoke the ever-changing, crashing waves of the nearby sea, with their undulating shapes and reflective surfaces. Perched atop the wall, a collection of rugged stones offers a tactile and visual connection to the craggy cliffs and hills that dot the Dorset landscape.

A Tribute to the Jurassic Coastline

In the centre, a stainless-steel ammonite pays homage to Dorset's famous Jurassic coastline and the prehistoric treasures it holds. The ammonite is a symbol of timelessness, linking the past to the present, and reminding us of the ancient stories hidden within the very rock beneath our feet.
