The Significance of Organ Donation Memorial Artworks
We were invited to Donarte 2023 to give a presentation on the significance of organ donation memorial artworks.
Donarte 2023 marked the second global conference hosted in Messina, Sicily, from September 29th to October 1st. The event derived its name from the amalgamation of "donation" and "art". The collective mission was to facilitate the exchange of invaluable knowledge to foster progress the vital topic of organ and tissue donation.
We have created an online version of our presentation which you can watch below.
Thank you to Anna Mazzeo and Deepak Gupta organising the conference and making it such a huge success. We met so many inspirational people and leading experts in their fields from countries such as Italy, India, UAE, USA, Japan, Ghana, Spain etc.
You can see the full Donarte 2023 program here.
For more context, here’s a quote from the organising presidents about the conference:
“According to the Global Observatory on Organ Donation and Transplantation, almost 150.000 solid organ are transplanted annually. However, it is estimated that this represents less than 10% of global needs. Long periods on the waiting list for organs may result in patients deteriorating or dying before transplantation.
This calls for effective measures to implement organ donation and transplantation, and gathering together for scientific discussion and sharing experiences will help in this direction. In addition, various workshops/simulations will be planned so that young researchers who will lead the future can exchange and study internationally.
DONARTE 2023 is an innovative and unique opportunity where Science and Art will merge. The love for knowledge and the power of art will be the inspirational leitmotiv of the Congress. Donation itself is an art which requires courage, awareness, and generosity.”
